Picoplog work for 0.11

Friday 2 January 2009

Hi all, it’s being a long time since we posted about Picoplog, sorry for that. So today I revived my local Picoplog setup and quickly made some long needed fixes:

Configurable JPEG quality. I also raised default from 80 to 95. 80% is way too much compression for a photoblog where quality is the main priority.

Custom photo size. The default theme now handles custom photo and thumb sizes. The default is still 800px wide for photos and 145px for thumbs.

Various tweaks to default dark style.

Added RSS feeds for each category

Antidote for the infamous PHP magicquotes misfeature as suggested by Michael W Harris

Email notifications as suggested by Robin Beitra

I’d like to throw in other minor fixes before the next release, anyway you can expect a release in the next weeks. Happy new year and please hit that nice button labeled Donate on the Picoplog homepage!

Picoplog 0.10

Monday 21 April 2008

Just a quick note to announce Picoplog version 0.10.
We have a new parametric style for the “default” theme. You can now have your very own pink Picoplog, if you want to. Just edit themes/default/config.php and follow the directions in the comments.
We fixed a bug in the ordering of photos. Newly uploaded photos were not considered the “latest” photos if their file modification time was in the past.
Enjoy a new Picoplog release brought to you by your friendly Daubau developers.

Update: 0.10.1 is out with an enhanced installation troubleshooting script (aka check.php). Enjoy!

Picoplog 0.9.1, codename “Gonzalez”

Monday 31 March 2008

Picoplog 0.9.1 is out with a host of performance improvements. Images and thumbnails are now served much faster.
HTML pages are also faster now. We spotted that the cache was being read more than one time per request for the same key. This alone brought a 3x speedup. Also the algorithm that detects changes in your photos has been optimized. On my large collection of pictures these changes caused a 500% improvement compared to version 0.8.1.

All this thanks to XDebug, an incredibly good PHP profiler. And to KCacheGrind that helped us visualize the profile data. Thank you guys!

Picoplog 0.8, codename: Valencia

Tuesday 22 January 2008

Here we go again! A new Picoplog release is available. This time the focus is on compatibility with various server setups. A big thank you to Colin from Valencia. Colin tried to install Picoplog but ran into many issues, so Daubau came to the rescue. He kindly granted us access to his server so we could test and fix many problems:

  • PHP in CGI mode
  • Apache 1.3 fixes
  • PHP compiled without EXIF support

But we also thrown in a number of features:

  • Pingomatic notification, so your photos will end up on Technorati and the likes
  • Geo metatags
  • Work started on stabilizing the public API for advanced theme authors
  • If you’re still reading then you really need to download Picoplog.

UPDATE: we released version 0.8.1 to fix bugs with EXIF extraction and web services for the desktop client

    Picoplog 0.7

Picoplog comments We have a new Picoplog release, our free photoblogging tool. Highlights in this new version include:

    • Improved comments style. The form now fades inside the photo itself, with a sleek translucency effect. Since they’re so cool, comments are now enabled by default.
    • User defined links, so you can link your an about page or your blog. Just edit /themes/default/config.php
    • The news “Albums” template shows a thumb per category with labels.
    • The archive template now shows the total photo count and the timespan of the category.
    • Album reference in photo template: “Filed in ….”
    • Geographic coordinates now show in the photo details. A map is coming soon…
    • Polish! Polish! Polish!

As always, feedback is really appreciated. Get Picoplog 0.7

    Picoplog

    Tuesday 23 October 2007
